Aviane is a contraceptive pill that, when used correctly, is more than 99% effective at preventing pregnancy. It’s classed as a “combined pill,” which means it combines the hormones estrogen and progestin. (Mini pills, on the other hand, only have progestin.) Like all combined pills, Aviane must be taken daily, at the same time each day, for it to work at its best.
The hormones in birth control are versions of female hormones that the body produces naturally. Taking The Pill causes certain things to change in the body. For example, ovulation might not happen, meaning an egg will not be released. On the off-chance ovulation does occur, vaginal mucus also thickens which can block sperm from reaching an egg. Finally, conditions in the uterus will change while you take Aviane. This means eggs which do become fertilized will not be able to implant themselves and grow.

How to take Aviane
Read the package insert carefully before you take Aviane.
Aviane has 21 orange pills with hormones and seven hormone-free light green pills. You’ll take one orange pill daily for three weeks and then one light green pill daily for one week. After you’ve finished all 28 pills, you’ll start a new pack.
The light green pills in Aviane are inactive, meaning they don’t contain any hormones. You’ll take them during the week you’ll have your period. The reason hormone-free pills are included in your pack is so you can get into the routine of taking one pill every day, making it easier to remember.
Aviane effectiveness
Most birth control pills are highly effective when taken properly and no pills are missed, and Aviane is over 99% effective when taken perfectly. Aviane stays highly effective with typical use, which is when you might occasionally forget a pill, but it’s good practice to use back-up birth control methods like condoms for a week after your missed pill.
What should I do if I miss an Aviane pill?
If you’re more than 24 hours late in taking one of your active pills, we recommend that you use a condom for the next week. Same goes for forgetting to take one or more pills. If you miss a pill during the inactive pill period, you don’t need to do anything (besides throw the missed pill away).

Is there more than one Aviane dosage?

No. There is only one Aviane strength available. Portia and Levora are similar to Aviane but carry a slightly higher dose of hormones.
Does Aviane have any other health benefits?

Yes. As well as preventing pregnancy, Aviane can be beneficial for women in other ways.
Aviane can cause menstrual periods to become lighter or even stop all together. Certain painful period symptoms, like cramps, can reduce in severity. Aviane can also treat acne in some women. And lastly, ovarian cysts may occur less often in women who take Aviane.
Can you take Aviane for acne?

Some birth control pills can help control acne in addition to preventing pregnancy. Aviane can sometimes reduce acne, but there are other pills that are more effective at controlling severe acne.[1] If you are looking for a pill that can help you get particular menstrual symptoms under control, you’ll have the option to specify which during your confidential online consultation.
What should I do if Aviane doesn’t work?

Both Aviane and Lutera contain the same active ingredients, in the same amounts. This means that they work the same and have the same side effects and contraindications. The main difference between Aviane and Lutera is the name, the packaging and the way the tablets look.
Aviane is also chemically similar to Lessina and another pill that’s no longer available called Alesse.
What are the most common side effects of Aviane?
Answer:
A lot of the time with the pill, side effects may occur during the first few weeks of use, but go away by themselves after a short time. This is the period where your body adjusts to the new pill. But if you get side effects that are bothersome or persist, you should let a doctor know.
More common side effects associated with Aviane include nausea, feeling sick, headaches, stomach cramps, bloating, dizziness, vaginal irritation or itching, vaginal and nipple discharge, tender or swollen breasts, freckles or darker facial skin, hair growth, hair loss, weight or appetite changes, contact lens problems (particularly with their application) and loss of libido.[2]
Are there alternatives to Aviane?
Answer:
Yes. Aviane contains levonorgestrel and ethinyl estradiol, two synthetic versions of the hormones estrogen and progesterone. There are numerous other birth control pills that contain the same ingredients, including Alesse, Ovima, Esme and Seasonale, although the hormone doses might differ. These pills work in similar ways and have similar side effects and contraindications.
There are many other pills with slightly different formulations, which may be good options if you currently take Aviane but want to try something else. Different birth control methods containing different active ingredients can impact women in different ways. Sometimes, it’s a case of finding what’s right for you.
