What is Staxyn?

Staxyn was a melting tablet for ED that is no longer available in Canada. It helps men get longer lasting and firmer erections.

It’s technically the same drug as Vardenafil, a generic that bears the same name as its active ingredient. Vardenafilis available both as a tablet that needs to be swallowed with water and as a “melting” tablet that dissolves in your mouth, called Vardenafil ODT.

Staxyn was different. You held it on the tongue, waited for it to disintegrate and swallowed it without water. This can be better for men who don’t like swallowing capsules whole, or who don’tl want to take a tablet wi th water during sex.

How does Staxyn work?

Staxyn improves the circulation of blood to the penis. This helps the man who has taken it get and stay erect.

ED happens when there’s insufficient blood supply to the penis, caused by contracted arteries at the entry. An enzyme in the body called PDE5 manages blood flow and tells these arteries to become narrow. Staxyn contains the active ingredient vardenafil, which is a PDE5 inhibitor. That means it blocks the action of the enzyme in the body, so arteries dilate and blood can move around more freely. This helps more blood rush to the penis during moments of arousal, meaning harder and better erections.

Staxyn or Vardenafil?

It comes down to using a branded treatment or using the generic version of it. You can also get Vardenafil as a melting tablet — it’s called Vardenafil ODT.

Clinically, they’re the same drug. The brand names Staxyn and Levitra (both are currently unavailable in Canada) are owned by the same company, but Vardenafil is a generic medicine, which means it can be made by other laboratories. Generic medicines are usually cheaper.

Is there more than one Staxyn dosage?

Answer:

No, Staxyn came in only one strength ( 10mg), although it’s not available anymore in Canada. It’s the middle dose for Levitra (also unavailable in Canada) and Vardenafil, so is the one that works best for most men.

Staxyn 10mg may not be right for everyone. Because there is no Staxyn 5mg or Staxyn 20mg, if you need to switch to a lower or higher dose, you’ll need to switch to Vardenafil instead.

Changing from Staxyn 10mg to another dose

Answer:

Vardenafil are both available in three doses: 5mg, 10mg and 20mg. However, Staxyn was available in the median dose of 10mg.

If you need to switch doses for any reason when taking Staxyn 10mg, you’ll need to change to Vardenafil or to a different type of ED treatment like Cialis or Viagra.

Did Staxyn work as well as other ED drugs?

Answer:

It should be more or less equivalent, even though the concentration of the active ingredient is lower. The reason drugs like Sildenafil and Viagra are available in doses of up to 100mg, whereas Staxyn was a 10mg dose drug only, is because the active ingredient found in Staxyn (vardenafil) is almost 10 times as pharmacologically potent as Sildenafil.

Is there a cheaper alternative to Staxyn?

Answer:

There are other ED drugs that are cheaper than Staxyn.

The cost of Staxyn will depend on the quantity you plan to use. The active ingredient found in Staxyn is Vardenafil, which is also available as a generic. Generic medications tend to be inexpensive alternatives to branded treatments.

Plus, Vardenafil is available in 5mg and 20mg doses whereas Staxyn is not.

But compared to other generics, like Tadalafil and Sildenafil, Vardenafil is a little pricier.

If you’re looking for an effective but cheaper alternative, speak to your doctor for advice.

What should I do if Staxyn doesn’t work?

Answer:

Don’t take more Staxyn than the recommended dose, even if it’s not doing anything. It’s important to remember that it can take up to 60 minutes and you’ll need to be sexually stimulated for it to work. So make sure you’ve waited long enough, or that not so much time has passed that it isn’t active anymore.

If you’ve given Staxyn a good go and it’s not helping your ED, you’ve got options. Send your doctor a message through your account and they can help you find a different medication that could work for you.

Staxyn or Viagra?

Answer:

There are advantages to each.

Staxyn dissolves on the tongue without the need for water, so it can be a little more discreet than Viagra. But because it’s only available in one dose, there isn’t the same versatility if you want to increase or decrease your dosage. Viagra is available in doses of 25mg, 50mg and 100mg doses.

Since Staxyn is not available anymore in canada, you can switch to its generic (cheaper) equivalent, Vardenafil, available as a hard tablet or a “melting” tablet (Vardenafil ODT).
